As if a new film from LAIKA Studios isn’t enough to be excited about, the creators of Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings have chosen the 2011 fantasy novel written by The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy as their latest project. Given its inherent ties to music, it was only natural that Wildwood would arrive alongside the sort of indie-rock tie-in album that was standard for any hip movie at the time Meloy’s band was first gaining traction. In this case, the Wildwood Sessions LP puts a spotlight on some of The Decemberists’ most exciting peers within their local Pacific Northwestern scene.
Alongside tracks by Still Woozy, Saya Gray, quickly, quickly, and more, the new collection also features an original track by Portland-via-Alaska group Portugal. The Man. The upbeat, comforting “You Can Count on Me” switches up the energy on the track list, arriving immediately after hip-hop cuts from Aminé and the collaboration between Omari Jazz, Bocha, Donte Thomas. You can preview it via the video—or via the iPads featured within the video—below, and stream the rest of the tracks here.
