Not sure if “witch house” is still a forbidden term, but the short-lived electro-trap movement (of which everyone who took part in still seems to deny their involvement) has made an evident comeback in more mainstream circles in recent years, culminating in long-awaited sophomore releases from Salem and Clams Casino, as well as yet another dirty HEALTH record. It also saw a new single from Alice Glass’ solo project, which hinted at a debut record, or at least a follow up to her self-titled 2017 EP.
“Suffer and Swallow” is the latest cut from Glass, which arrived this morning with a promise of future “surprises [black heart emoji].” The dark, three-minute single comes complete with a stop-motion animated video from Lucas David, which lands somewhere between Tim Burton and the Quay brothers, and which conforms to another quickly reviving aesthetic: mid-aughts Hot Topic. Watch it below, and keep an eye on Glass’ Bandcamp.
